The death of Marie Colvin in the Syrian city of Homs, reported this morning, is truly heartbreaking news. A venerated war correspondent, Colvin delivered a wonderful report for Vogue’s January issue, detailing women’s lives on the front line in Libya during the siege of Tripoli last year. She will be remembered at Vogue especially for her terrific sense of of humour. When asked to contribute a contributor’s photo, she sent in this image, along with the following message: “Does this one work? You would have to include the Libyan general I am interviewing – he looks like I am driving him mad, which I think is the best part of the photo. Not to mention that all my friends would empathise!” She will be hugely missed.
