Diego Maradona spent the bulk of his European playing career at Napoli, and despite the drug-addled cloud of shame under which he left the club, he is still held in high regard among the Partenopei. So when he appeared to turn up at last night’s Champions League tie between Bayern Munich and Napoli, fans were understandably excited. However, their excitement was in vain. Despite the shiny suit, curly hair, gray-flecked beard and physique that pays testament to decades of overindulgence, this man is an imposter.
He may be wearing watches on both wrists and sunglasses indoors — both classic Maradona traits — but Faux-Diego is actually a Turk named Abi Atici, who makes a living impersonating the tubby Argentinean.
